The mask project was one in which we studied the ways people are socialized to act and/or think. After studying this, we went and made masks based off this. The masks were supposed to metaphorically represent the ways people or the creator themselves have been socialized.
During this project, I did not put in as much effort as I could have. This is because I waited somewhat last minute to start working on it, including the original plaster model itself. I never really pushed myself when it came to the work I was putting in to it, considering the fact that it doesn't even have eyes. However, I did push myself a bit in the idea it represented. It would have been very easy for me to go with the generic "bad thoughts" or "cracking mask", but I thought it'd be cool to personify the negative socialization as an actual entity. It took some time to find a design that would fit this, but I liked the way it turned out in the end. During the project, I never felt that I really grew as a person. It's probably because I never took much initiative on the project, and in the end I got it finished, so it didn't really give me incentive to change much. However, overall, I'll still try to learn from this, and I enjoyed the project. |
